Lots of good articles from around the web this week.
- Dough Roller has hosted the 123rd Carnival of Personal Finance – The Boo Edition. I submitted the article "Preparing for a Move".
- Canadian Capitalist tells us to "Say No to PPN's"
- Canadian Dream inspires us with his financial success story.
- Four Pillars writes a review on Derek Fosters new book "The Lazy Investor"
- Financial Blogger has a great story of how his friend got out of some serious debt in his article "Getting Out of Debt in 3 Steps".
A quick note, Questrade no longer requires personal information in order to be referred. They have a brand new system setup that makes it super easy for new accounts to get their free $50 trading credit. You can read more about it here.
Also, one week remaining for the top commentator contest! For those of you out of the loop, i'm giving away a free book to the October top commentator.
If you would like to read more articles like this, you can sign up for my free weekly money tips newsletter below (we will never spam you).
Thanks for the link! It was actually Mr. Cheap who wrote the review however I’m the who took the initiative to lend the book to him :)
Mike
That cheap doesn’t buy anything for himself. :)
Yeah, if we want to see reviews from Cheap, we’re going to need to send HIM books rather than expect any giveaways! ;)
Hopefully Cheap comes by to defend himself.
Well, I won the book from Canadian Dream so it’s not like I forked over any money for it. :)
Mike
Thx for the mention FT,
Mike, maybe if you pay Mr. Cheap, he will come and defend himself ;-) If not, I think he will lean towards the “lazyness” of the investor ;-)
I should clarify that Mr. Cheap is not a cheapskate – I’ve hung out with him on occasion and if you didn’t read the blog, you would never think he’s Mr. Cheap.
The fact is that he doesn’t have a car and has very cheap accomodation (was $500/month). I’ll bet if you could subtract your car expenses and only pay $500 for accomodation then most of us would have pretty low expenses too. I don’t want to think about what percentage of my budget goes to accomodation.
Mike
Mr. Cheap is probably like some of us frugal people, frugal with themselves, but generous to others. At least thats the way that I like to live.
On another note, looks like the top commentator is neck and neck. FB with 27 comments and FP with 24. Only a few days left fellas!
I hate to ruin the suspense but I’m actually not interested in that book – it’s the one about starting your own business I believe?
Mike
But it’s free! Perhaps if you win, you can give it away to one of your readers.
FT,
Thanks for the link.
Mike,
It’s good the hear that book is getting some milage out of it. *grin*
Tim
FT,
By the way I thought of problem with your contest. If I keep writing a line or two on each post I could jump to the top of the list in a hell of a hurry. Did you put anything in the rules about the comment actually being substantial?
Tim
CD, yea, there are definitely loopholes to the contest. I’d rather ppl leave one liner comments than none at all. :)
CD – my wife read it too (I’m the only one who hasn’t read it yet).
FT – good point, but I can’t be bothered. It would be a waste of postage to send it to me and then I send it to someone else…unless Mr. Cheap wants it?
Mike
Mike,
Mr. Cheap made up his own name – that’s his problem! ;)
Seriously, I’m quite sure most of us love Cheap’s tendencies and wish we could be more like him in many ways. Sheesh…I was about ready to set him up with my sister! ;)
Telly – good point!
I hope I didn’t ruin it for him with your sister…
Mike
FT! 999 Subscribers man, only 1 more for the 1,000 mark!! Either tomorrow or by Monday the celebration will be begin :P
Have a great weekend.
You know what? I’ve never subscribed. I’m going to be #1,000. :)
Yep, 999 is like the big tease. :)
Thanks for subscribing Telly.
How do I subscribe with Viigo on my blackberry? I tried to enter in a URL for the channel but it did not work. Viigo can’t automatically find this blog.
Cannon, have you subscribed to other blogs with Viigo?
I’ve never tried to add a channel with Viigo – all of the other channels are picks from a populated selection.
I have a few options to add a channel:
Add from Web Page
Add OPML
Add RSS Channel
I’ve tried to enter in URL for the Web Page and the RSS Channel. Perhaps the URL’s I used were incorrect.
Would you please post the correct URL’s and I’ll see if that is where the error is?
CF, for RSS you can try:
https://www.milliondollarjourney.com/feed
or
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MillionDollarJourney
Are you trying to subscribe to Million Dollar Journey’s RSS Feed?
If so, the URL to add to Viigo (“Add RSS channel”) would be:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MillionDollarJourney
or, alternately:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MillionDollarJourney?format=xml
To subscribe to comments for Million Dollar Journey:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/CommentsForMillionDollarJourney
I just tested them, and they all seem to work ok in Viigo.
Thanks for using Viigo!
:)

Peter, thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the link. Good luck on the 1000 subscribers. Man, it took me forever to reach it! Congrats!
Hey FT,
My pleasure! I’ve added “Million Dollar Journey” to the Viigo Channel Library, in the Blogs section.
Cheers,
Pete
Thanks for taking care of this. For the first time ever, I forgot my BB at work :-(
I will check it out tomorrow.
I missed this whole discussion and everyone was talking about me :-)
Mike, please win the book for me!
And buy more beer. ;-)
I’ll see what I can do…
Mike
Mr. Cheap, if I ever win over Mike, I’ll make photocopies of the book so you can read it ;-)
or maybe you would prefer to have it scanned? :-D
