Vote for your Favorite Charity!

Since we started the "Links for Charity" program, we have collected over $350 from generous contributors like Mortgages, Cashflow 101 Players, RedFlagDeals, and Fraser & Stephen Winters Remax.  Previously, $100 was donated to the Cancer Society and now it's time to pick another charity for another $100 donation.  As promised I will let you, the loyal reader, decide on which charities to donate to.

Below is a poll of some popular Canadian charities, please take a moment and vote for your favorite.  I've also calculated some of the management expense ratios of the charities listed below in "Charities and their Management Expense Ratios".

If your favorite charity isn't on the list, I'm open to suggestions.

  1. Looks like the Childrens Miracle Network is in the lead. I will take the final result on Monday and place the donation then.

Anyone have the annual report for the Childrens Miracle Network?

  2. I vote for the ALS Society. It is a little known society that could use the exposure in your contests.

  3. Hey CM, thanks for your feedback. Could you tell us why you like the ALS society? Do you have a link to their annual financial statements?

I vote for the Canadian Cancer Society for no other reason than it’s the single largest killer in my family tree. Absolutely mind-blowingly #1. Cancer is to my family what Indy was to New Orleans on Thursday night.

A point to ponder. When I give, I like to see tangible results. Hence, I give to support the purchase of equipment (dialysis, etc.). This way I know my money is being put directly towards making life easier for someone in my community. Any chance we can direct future donations in that direction?

Also, don’t forget the recent changes in donations of certain shares and ecologically sensitive land.

I just can’t believe the SPCA is ahead of the Alzheimers Society. I guess at this point 19% of people care more about mangy animals than they do about sick children or sick adults. No wonder the world is in the state it’s in.

I happen to resemble a person who cares about mangy animals. In fact, just last weekend, I drove 10 hours (5 out, 5 back) to adopt a dog in need of a good home. I find your comment offensive. I also happen to be a blood donor and I am on the list to donate bone marrow to anyone who needs it. We give time, money, and labour to a host of good causes – how about you?

  7. 7. Traciatim

I hoped it would be offensive. It’s ok though, because all the people with Alzheimers will forget who chose a dog over them.

  8. 8. Rod Payne

Ah! You’re a troll. Good luck with that.

  9. Let’s keep the comments toned down. Traciatim, charity choices are often a personal choice. Most have probably never experienced a family member with Alzheimers before, thus they don’t realize the devastation of the disease.

  10. Looks like the Cancer Society will receive another $100 donation. If you guys have any other charity ideas, contact me and i’ll look into them. Donation will be made sometime this week, thanks for participating!
