As a comment to Insurance as a Tax Hedge as it applies to those that are retired and with a significant estate, I would suggest one look at getting those that will benefit (e.g. children) to pay the insurance premiums on your insurance policy.

If you and your spouse leave a large estate, and a large tax bill that will cut into the amounts given to your beneficiaries, why not allow them the option to minimize the tax costs by paying for the life insurance premiums?

Just be careful for a hidden agenda if your children offer to fix the brakes on your car, encourage you to skydive, or give you a 1 way ticket to a country currently in a civil war…
