I just read a few days ago (this relates to “More Research Casts Doubts on Actively Managed Funds”) that if you want to try to beat the index, you have to at least invest in funds which don’t look like the index.

Of course, that is no guarantee you will beat the index…

FT – tell your wife that it only gets harder to travel with the kid. Doing it sooner is much better!
