Building Wealth through Saving and Investing

E-Trade, Seat Sales and Weekend Reading – July 18, 2008

Last year, Scotia Bank purchased TradeFreedom. Seems that their quest to increase their online discount brokerage market share isn’t over yet. This week, they announced the purchase of E-Trade Canada!

WestJet is offering 50% off fall flights from Sept 3 to Oct 31, 2008. Tickets must be booked by July 23, 2008. More details here. Even with the discount, it would cost me and my wife over $1,000 to fly to Toronto return. Those airline fuel surcharges are brutal!

Thanks for the link! Are you and your wife planning a trip to T.O.? You should let Mike and I know when you’ll be in town and we can go out for a drink or something…

  6. Mr. Cheap, I’d really like to go out to Toronto this year but the wife is a bit apprehensive about travelling with the little one. However, if we do make it out, I will definitely give you guys a call.

Wait now, is this another ploy to get more free beer?

  7. FT – tell your wife that it only gets harder to travel with the kid. Doing it sooner is much better!

Please note that I’m not saying it’s going to be easy – only that it won’t get easier (for a long time).

    Mike

I just read a few days ago (this relates to “More Research Casts Doubts on Actively Managed Funds”) that if you want to try to beat the index, you have to at least invest in funds which don’t look like the index.

Of course, that is no guarantee you will beat the index…
