Million Dollar Journey

Building Wealth through Saving and Investing

John Chow – Internet Mogul!

I’m sure some of you readers know of John Chow of John Chow Dot Com. He started his blog back in December of 2005 and monetizing in September of 2006 with $0 in ad revenue. Fast forward 1 year and now his blog is among the top 1000 according to Technorati. On top of that, his blog now generates approximately $2800/month from link/ad revenue (in 5 months)!

You may be thinking that $2800USD/month is a lot of money to be generated from a blog but not for John. John Chow Dot Com is more of an after thought for John, a side project if you will. How does this Vancouver resident do it? The answer is … experience. John is the head honcho behind long time site The Tech Zone, an extremely popular high tech site that does reviews on computer components. John has never mentioned his income from his main site but from reading his blog and how he describes his blog income as a fraction of his web income, it’s safe to assume that he makes at least $20K-30K/month (USD) web income. Yes, you heard right, PER MONTH.

John usually posts about a variety of topics, but my favorite topics are his blog ad optimization articles and what works best for him. John was also the first to introduce me to AGLOCO. John made over $25k from the old AllAdvantage program, and already has 3000 referrals under him for AGLOCO. When the AGLOCO program starts, you can be assured that John Chow is going to be among the leaders of AGLOCO income.

I visit his site regularly. Why? Probably because he has taken control of his own life, living his dream, and telling us the story of how he did it. Not only does he love doing what he does, he is making HEAPS of money doing it! What’s better than that?

Update May 2008: John Chow dot Com now makes over $30k / month on the blog alone!

I frequent John Chows site regularly also. Great resource.

I have to agree with you about Johns site. Although I love his optimization post, his other “techie” post are quite interesting also. I’ve picked up more than a few tips and tricks from his post.

BTW, just found this site through DIGG. Looks like I’ll have to bookmark another useful blog!

  3. Hey Don,

Thanks for stopping by! Yes, John has given me a LOT of ideas, like this new comments layout. :)

    Hi,

Just thought I should point out it took John a bit longer than 5 months to reach the Technorati top 1000 – he started the blog in Dec 05 not Sep 06.

  5. Hey Ian!

Yes, what I meant to say is that he started monetizing his site with Adsense in Sept. Thanks for the heads up.

    Nice review, good job :)!

  8. John Chow actually makes over $10,000 a month consistently with JUST his blog.

John Chow uses smoke and mirrors to mislead the masses and I just revealed his trickery in a blog post on my blog.

I’m fairly new to blogging but from what I can gather no one has a good word to say about the guy.

  11. I visited John Chow’s blog several times but I couldn’t find Google ads. How can he get money from Adsense, according to his monthly report while he doesn’t put any on his blog?
Well, I am glad to get my first 140 dollars after reading a lot about Adsense from Joel Comm’s book and John Chow’s Seven Habits of Successful Bloggers. To make it simple, I would say “Content is King.”

  12. Your post is indeed very informative. These days not only amateur webmasters are doing internet marketing but also young grad students are promoting their less professional sites as their practice and projects. Articles on starting an internet marketing business are available on the internet easily.

I write many blogs for clients and I love the work john produces.

    Interesting write-up.

I am also admiring John Chow and his earnings. April 2009: More than $40,000 per month now.

I was trying to analyze his earnings from the beginning and found that very hard because he is banned from Google.

So i created a list of his posts that include earnings reports. You can find them at my site: http://www.51grand.com/john-chow/.

His blogging earnings are jumping every month, but it is interesting to see how the structure of the pile varies.

Great site, nice to learn how to monetize, hope i managed to do that too in my social networking programmers site :)

  16. John Chow is master of Adsense. Salute!

Nice post of a review of a top caliber blogger in town. But John Chow is banned by google and his blog receives a lot of negative impression with his tactics in ranking and traffic manipulation. But anyhow, thanks to him, I learned a lot from his posts.

I’m just starting to develop a few ideas for a some projects. I’ve found John Chow’s blog to be quite helpful.

He’s actually no longer banned by Google, he’s written about it on his blog as well.

John Chow is a whizkid. But he seems to be overdoing his blog monetisation. it is an overkill, imho. His home page always loads very slow and my browser crashes everytime.

Wonder if anybody else has felt the same?
