Deals and Freebies (TD Aeroplan, Tangerine, and Canadian MoneySaver) – April 2016

At the beginning of the month, I wrote about some offers that generated a bit of buzz in my inbox.  Here they are again as most of them are about to expire.

TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Promo

For Aeroplan fans (and credit card churning fans – ie. those that sign up just for the bonus), TD Infinite Visa has an enticing limited time promotion (expired May 27, 2016):

  • Current offer: Welcome Bonus of 15,000 Aeroplan Miles with your first purchase and an additional 10,000 miles when you keep your account active for 90 days (enough for a free flight in North America). Plus, no Annual Fee for the first year ($120 savings).
  • The card offers 1.5 pts/$1 spent at gas stations, grocery stores, drug stores and on AirCanada.com.  1 pt/$1 spent on everything else, and a very comprehensive travel insurance offering.
  • I consider this one of the best cards for Aeroplan collectors.

Tangerine Chequing and Savings Bonus

When I wrote about the BMO Planshare account last week, there were quite a few comments about using free chequing accounts.  The one that was mentioned a number of times via comments and emails was the free Tangerine accounts.  After chequing out (nudge – get it?) their site, they have a couple of promos if you sign up.

  • Opening a free savings/TFSA/RRSP account will give you an extra $25.  And if you setup an automatic savings plan of $100/month, they will give you another $25 bonus after 6 months.  More info here.

Exclusive Canadian MoneySaver Magazine Discount

For those who are fans of personal finance and investing magazines (like myself), Canadian MoneySaver Magazine has offered MDJ readers an exclusive discount of 25% off their digital subscription. Personally, I’m a big fan of the “beating the TSX series” where the author shows his annual results of picking high yielding, blue chip stocks from the TSX and has been beating the market over the long term.

Price: Regular price is $20 for one year or $36 for two years, MDJ price is $15 for one year or $27 for two years. (sorry new clients only, this does not apply to renewals).  Note that this offer is for their Online Edition only.

Use discount code: MDJ at the bottom of the screen when signing up here (this offer expires April 30).

FrugalTrader About the author: FrugalTrader is the founder and editor of Million Dollar Journey (est. 2006). Through various financial strategies outlined on this site, he grew his net worth from $200,000 in 2006 to $1,000,000 by 2014. You can read more about him here.

Love the TD Aeroplan visa, it has funded a few stellar trips of mine over the past year or so.

We actually just cancelled both our TD Aeroplan infinite cards this week. Our first free year was going to expire in a couple weeks and we didn’t want to pay the annual fee. No fuss or problem in getting them cancelled. Used them just enough to get the bonuses.

Anybody have any experience on re-applying for them? Will they approve you again, with the sign up bonuses? How long would be wise to wait after the cancellation?
