Are You Financially Sexy?

The following guest post was written by Mike @ Green Panda Treehouse.

All right, first off I must admit that I was inspired in great part by one of my blogger friends (J Money) for the title of my article. J writes for Budgets Are Sexy and I always thought it was such a great name for a financial blog. As personal finance and sex are the 2 most taboo topics in our society today, combining sex and money is a great idea ;-).

But why ask if you are financially sexy? Just to know if you have enough financial (sex) appeal to succeed and reach financial freedom. If we take a look at what it takes to be sexy, you may find that it’s not that different than personal finance.

When you think sexy you think body

The very first aspect scrutinized to be considered sexy is your body. Unfortunately, we are not all born with a Brad Pitt or Scarlet Johansson body. It is the very same thing with finance. We are not all born in rich families that will give us their multi-national, profitable empire to manage at the age of 30.

In order to improve your body, you need to eat well (I previously wrote about my mini detox technique, it works!) and work out (to lose weight and build more muscle). If you do it consistently with a good menu and workout plan, you will become sexier after a while.

When you consider your finances, you need a well balanced budget (menu) that will help you pay off your debt and invest systematically (working out to build up your “financial” muscles). How do you go about building stronger financial muscles? As you would go see a personal trainer for your body, you can go see a financial advisor for your finances. Don’t be afraid to tell him everything about your situation so he can create a solid financial plan.

Also… the younger you start working out, the easier it is to lose weight. It’s the very same thing with paying off your debt and start investing!

When you think sexy you think attitude

Personally, I totally melt when my wife gives me “that” look. That look includes a mix of confidence, “go getter” look and maybe a bit of naughtiness? But seriously folks, someone who is confident and knows what they are looking for is definitely sexy.

Well you have to face your personal finances with the same confidence and “go getter” attitude. If you wait for life to give you what you “deserve” you will die poor and frustrated. You want a promotion? Start acting like you deserve it and ask for it. You want to start a business? Run to the bank with your business plan and tell them how they can make a huge pile of cash at the same time as you by investing in your idea.

This winner attitude will bring your far. You have to believe in yourself before doing anything else. This sexy attitude towards your finance will help you build wealth.

When you think sexy you think charisma

I’m sure you have already met someone with an amazing body but he/she  left you indifferent. Why is that? Because that person had no charisma. While it is pretty hard to define, I would describe charisma as the “energy enveloping your body”. This is what people feel when they are around you. This is the energy you are sending to your environment.

Financial charisma can be established as two things:

  • Think Positive. Good things happen to good people… in a good mood! So you are better off starting your day with a positive attitude and looking forward to making more money instead of complaining that you don’t have enough.
  • Behave as if you are successful already. Don’t become a bragger and don’t paint all your walls pink. Acting like you are already successful will help lead you to great results. It’s about talking positively of your financial situation, about your projects and defining them as something with great potential.

If I had to describe the financial sexiness of an individual, I would use these 3 points to do it. Being sexy comes with having a great body, great attitude and great energy. If you use the same principles for your personal finance, you will become wealthier in no time ;-)

So, Are you financially sexy?

And now we know why MDJ didn’t win best of blogs

  4. ouch Dirk! :)

The article may not have been the typical MDJ post, but there is relevant material there.

Dude, I am kidding. But seriously, trying to equate the 2 things seems a bit of a stretch. The title just tries too hard to get your attention like in high school every year the signs were plastered everywhere “SEX – now that I have your attention, vote for Pedro for president of student council”. And just so you know, this is the only financial blog I read.

    Come on Dirk,
    You didn’t like my article?
This wasn’t the most informational posts ever written but you can’t tell it wasn’t not entertaining?

If you would like to vote for Pedro, I would be pleased but the post was really about the sexiness of finance ;-)

As some one who has had a string of relationships with people who cannot manage money including my current husband who is satisfied to leave every single thing to me then complain if things don’t work out.

I can honestly say that I would bring this subject up on the first freeking date. There’s nothing more annoying than someone who works at cross purposes with you when you are trying to create wealth. Or someone who goes out and blows money you don’t have on gadgets and crap. I personally deal with this by being extremely frugal myself because I feel like I can’t spend anything on myself because there isn’t enough to go around.

If you ever want to have any hope in hell of achieving wealth and you don’t make a million per year, who you pick to be your mate is probably the most important thing you can do.

So yeah finance is SEXY as hell.

Guys you should also ask this from your mate. I know people who are in the same boat as me but from the other direction women who go out and spend their money, making stupid emotional decisions, buying all kinds of stuff they don’t need.

    Awesome article !!!

A positive attitude can go a long way. If you’re leveraging your finances on stock or real estate then you’ll be well suited to have a positive long term vision.

  9. This was quite an exquisite comparison! Indeed the positive thinking is 99% of everything we do. As you’ve put it, many of us are used to complain about the things we don’t have, instead of focusing on what we have and what we can do for growing wiser and wealthier.
